2357 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Technology

This exciting new qualification is a complete electrical qualification for apprentice’s wanting to become qualified electrician.

The way the course will work is part distance learning and part class taught with tutor support throughout. This course can be started at any time and completed at the individuals pace. We send out modules to be worked through and completed at home and return. You will be able to meet up with your assessor to discuss progress and experience one-one and small group tuition.

We run an intense 5 day programs every 6 weeks for lectures and practical assessments and practice. We have found this delivery very beneficial and it is included in the package at no extra cost.

For candidates who have previous individual 2330 or 2360 units you can still use this units whereby MAPPING over to the new 2357 diploma. You will only be required to take certain 2357 units to become a full JIB electrician. Our onsite assessor will be able to provide you what units you require once your previous qualifications have been assessed.

The 2357 is a complete electrical qualification which breaks down into 3 components:

The guided learning hours are only for guidance for the classroom taught option. Obviously these units can be done quicker than this depending on the pace, motivation, and level of learning of each candidate doing the distance learning option.

Exams/Assessments

For each unit there is a certain amount of tasks which need to be completed.

These tasks are either Practical Assessments, Written Exams or Online Multi-choice exams.

Performance Unit – NVQ

This portfolio is based on providing evidence in a working environment from the scheme of works listed below.

Produce and work with risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
Produce a programme of work from the work specification including estimation of the amount of time required for completion of the work.
Install seven of the following cables: PVC/PVC flat profile cable, SWA cables (PILC, XLPE, PVC), Data cables, Fire resistant cable, MMICC (with and without PVC sheath), Thermosetting insulated cables including flexes, Braided armour flexibale cables (SY), single and multicore thermoplastic (PVC) and thermosetting insulated cables.
Install seven of the following wiring enclosures: Steel conduit, PVC conduit, Steel trunking, Cable Tray, Cable Basket, Ladder systems,
Ducting, Modular wiring systems, Busbar systems and Powertrack
Install all of the following types of electrical equipment and accessories: Isolaters and switches, Sockets-outlets, Distribution boards, Consumer units, Control equipment, Luminaires, Auxiliary equipment (e.g. heating/water system components), Earthing fault and overcurrent protective devices, Data socket outlets, Motors & control equipment.
Select the correct test instruments and carry out all of the following tests: Continuity, Insulation resistance, Polarity, Earth fault loop impedance, Prospective fault current, RCD operation, Phase sequence, Functional testing.
Perform suitable diagnostic tests to successfully identify the following faults: Loss of supply, Overload, Short-circuit and earth fault, Transient voltage, Loss of phase/line, Incorrect phase rotation, High resistance joints, Component, accessory or equipment faults.

How it works

You will be provided with a portfolio to work through and produce evidence covering all the different units.

You will be allocated an assessor who will be your contact for your NVQ.

The assessor will need to come and visit you at your work place.

Once stage 1 and stage 2 have been completed there is a final assessment to be taken.

Independent Assessment Unit – AM2 Unit 399

This unit is Electrotechnical Occupational Competance (AM2)
The AM2 must be entered when you are ready. This is normally with the agreement of your employer and NVQ assessor.
It is the final unit to be taken in the 2357 qualification.
It has to be taken at one of the nationally accredited AM2 centres.
